With the blessing of His Eminence Nicolae, Archbishop of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese in the Americas, the Deanery of Eastern USA gathered in Philadelphia on October 30 and 31, 2015. The meeting was presided by H.E. Archbishop Nicolae, and attended also by His Grace Ioan Casian, Auxiliary-Bishop, Fr. Dean Nicholas Apostola, and Fr. Daniel Ene, the Eparchial Secretary, together with the priests and delegates from each parish of the Deanery.

The meeting began on October 30 and had as theme the two topics of this year established by the Romanian Holy Synod: The commemorative year of the Mission in the parish and monastery today and Saint John Chrysostom and the great shepherds of souls from the dioceses. After the opening remarks by H.E. Archbishop Nicolae, Fr. Dean Nicholas Apostola (St. Nicholas Church, Worcester) made a presentation entitled “Reflections on the Mission of His Eminence Archbishop Victorin Ursache”. Fr. Marius Dumitrescu (St. Nicholas Church, New York) talked about “Pastoral Challenges with New Immigrants in an Old Parish”. The first day ended with a conference with all priests participating.

The meeting continued Saturday morning when H.E. Archbishop Nicolae and H.G. Bishop Ioan Casian read the Akathist of our Lord Jesus Christ. After the service, Bogdan Neacsiu and Alexandru Popovici made a presentation entitled “Reflections on St. Nicholas Velimirovich Mission in America and of St. Sava Brancovich - Metropolitan of Ardeal, in Romania”. Fr. Daniel Ene spoke about “Pastoral Issues Regarding the Steadiness of a New Parish”. Archbishop Nicolae and Bishop Ioan Casian gave updates on the process of the founding of the new Romanian Orthodox Metropolia on the North American continent.

The meeting ended with the reports of the Educational Committee (Fr. Daniel Ene), the Ladies Auxiliary (AROLA) and the Youth Organization (ROYA). The details of the next Deanery meeting were also clarified. H. E. Archbishop Nicolae thanked the priests and the delegates for their presence and involvement in the organization of this event, and also Fr. Nicolai Buga and Mrs. Rodica Buga, the hosts of the meeting, for the warm hospitality in the two days.

In the evening, Archbishop Nicolae and Bishop Ioan Casian, together with all the priests, celebrated Great Vespers and the service of placing the Holy Relics on the Holy Table of the Altar in Philadelphia’s Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Church that was scheduled to be consecrated the following day.
